Exterior syndrome is mild with superficial location and serious with deep location. Interior penetration of the exogenous pathogenic factors indicates progress of the disease while exterior withdrawal of the endogenous pathogenic factors suggests alleviation of the disease.

表证是在浅表是轻缓的，深而入里就危重。表邪入里为病进，里邪出表为病退。

The general clinical manifestations of the exterior syndromes are fever, aversion to cold or wind, heaviness of the body and head, thin and whitish tongue coating and flouting pulse, occasionally accompanied by stuffy and running nose, sore-throat and cough.

表证的一般临床表现是发热、恶寒或恶风、头身沉重，薄白苔、脉浮，常伴随鼻塞、流涕、咽痛、咳嗽。
