The Khoisan now live in modern-day South Africa and Namibia.

Scientists analyzed DNA samples from 200 people who live near the area today. They are from the Khoisan people.

The overwhelming majority of the manual work was done by landless black labourers, the descendants  of the Khoisan who had been stripped of their ancestral lands under Dutch rule.
